Fighting..

When was the last time I updated this blog?
Can't remember. But it doesn't change the fact that it was quite sometime ago.

Training still continues, but with work and MORE readings to do comparing to schooling days, and less personal time sitting in front of the computer finding words to phrase things out... this blog was... abandoned... well not totally, but yea, for a while.

My training now is back to basic and Kata again. Kumite, not so much.
One of the juniors is now training at the other dojo as well, preparing for his upcoming competition this December. Had a little fight with him... and guess what? He is still not comfortable with the style that the other Dojo is doing.
Not to say that the other fighting style is lousy, or he is lousy, but perhaps he is still trying to adjust himself, coming up with his own unique way of fighting, combining the plus points in both style and choosing only those that he think suits him well. But this takes time, just that this takes time.

As for me, I find myself having problem fighting with bigger size people.
Why? For one obvious reason, their punches and kicks will be harder. The theory is simple, how to block their kicks without taking such big impact. I used to do it. But now that he has improved, his hands are always ready to attack whenever I charged in to block. Which means when I am countering his kick, he will counter my counter attack, and unless I have a counter to counter his counter attack, else I will just find myself a nice heavy punch landing on me.

Then how?
I am still wondering... Is it just because that in 'sports Karate' where we don't hurt each other, it will be difficult to handle bigger player?

Mental training

Training continues, despite the fact that I am not updating my blog.

Work started.
Dragging this tired soul there is... tiring.
And after a tiring session of Karate, the tired soul now have a refreshed mind, but a tired body...
And thus it needs sleep,
and thus there is no updates...

The training now is to bring myself to training.
That is mental training.

Still continuing

Yes, I am tired.
But still I am making some effort to go for training.

It was one of my goal that I have listed, during the first day of work.

Today, basic drill.
Then, practice with partner.

Sensei's speed is still amazing. Eventhough I was anticipating an attack, but the speed was so fast that I went blank. For the next moment when I know, I have been hit.

And the punch was heavy,
but still well controlled.
The force spreaded out, and didn't penetrate deep into me.

Ok, tired.
Will just stop here.

Quiting?

Work started.

No longer a student who have all the time in the world to do all the things that he wished to.
Work started, and the working hours sometime will just overlap with the training time. Even when the working hours don't overlap, there are endless assignment and readings that I need to complete.

It makes me very tired.

Do I have the energy to work?
Do I have the energy to train?

A balance need to be strike.
Or is balancing impossible?

Training, after a month of break

Took a break, for a month.
Training resume.

But apparently my body was not really prepared.
Training was not tough, but the body got tired easily.

***

Two groups of people.
First group of people line up in a zig zag manner.
Second group line up, and start to attack the people in the first group one after another, as fast as possible with a fixed technique.

Two things.
To always keep oneself in the fighting stance, to punch fully.
To always control the distance, switching the leg as needed.

This is the training like Kendo.
撃ち込み (uchi-komi) [Hit in?]
The idea is to train the person to charge in, to change the direction, to switch leg.
Foor work.

***
Kizami-Tsuki
刻み突き
Jab. What it actually mean is to chop. It should be very snappy, like using the knife and chop chop chop chop... fast!

That was what sensei said.

***
Kicking.
It is not only about the leg that is being lifted up.
But also about the leg that is on the floor.
In short, both legs are important.

円心一本組手

Enshin-Ippon-Kumite
(round one step sparring?)

It is just a one step sparring practice, with a bit of twist.
All of us form a circle, a very small circle. One person stand in the middle. Starting from a person, in a clockwise/anti-clockwise direction, everyone move in with an oitsuki. The person in the middle is suppose to do like what we normally do in one-step sparring. But this time, immediately after one attack, there will be another one coming in. And one will need to coordinate well so that one can continue the attack without much problem.

Sensei did a bit of demonstration. All are just simple technique, but sensei made it flow so nice that it seems as if it was coreographed before.
RuiZe who have experience in chinese martial arts did it with his own variation, a mixture of his chinese martial arts and Karate, making it looks quite fanciful but nevertheless, effective. Leong Lok senpai still have his speed to do all the complicated technique that will really kill/break bones if he extends the attack fully. Another guy have all his attack made into double punch that comes out smoothly one after another in either sequence. Some have very fast movement, some have very long reach, some have very nice kick, some evade precisely.

It really amazes me, how versatile are us.
Perhaps it doesn't really reflect the real fighting situation, but it is a good point to start practicing.

Today's 一言:Mind block... (can't think of any fanciful attack~)
